The first quadrille performance of the Fox Bay Riders: Laurie B. (on Brio, a Selle Francais), Jenny K. (on Phoreo, Westphalian), Teressa K. (on Nina, Norwegian Fjord), Marg C. (on Dane, Norwegian Fjord), Char K. (on Tully, an Oldenburg), and Jasmine M. (on Homer, a Paint).

Performed on April 4, 2009 at Fox Bay Farm (foxbayfarm.com) in Ferndale, Washington as part of the Whatcom Horse Expo co-sponsored by the Whatcom County Dressage and Eventing Association.

Quadrille is a performance of choreographed, synchronized maneuvers on horseback, commonly performed to music, which is often compared to an equestrian ballet or to a drill team. The history of quadrille goes back to cavalry maneuvers needed for the battleground, as well as to the royal courts in Europe, where it was shown as a form of entertainment.

A minimum of four horses are used, although many times more (always in pairs), which perform movements together. Quadrille may be ridden as a performance, such as those given by the Spanish Riding School, or as a competitive test with judging. Quadrille is judged by spacing from horse to horse, the synchrony of movement, and the alignment of the horses.
