This is film of the Bolshoi Theatre dancer Erik Mukhamedov, who left Russia and went to the West to join the Royal Ballet.

Mukhamedov is seen practising alone in class.

And then rehearsing 'La Fille mal Gardee' with Sir Anthony Dowell.

We observe him rehearsing 'Summer' with Viviana Durante

And Sir Kenneth MacMillan chats to camera about choreographing for Mukhamedov and the ex-Bolshoi dancer speaks about the adjusts to his dancing and acting in order to fit within the context of the Royal Ballet.

listen to this, and the beginning of the video, exactly the same audio :P

am I on to some huge ballet conspiracy? who knows :P

  • hi MrNocco - i love a conspiracy theory as much as anyone! i tried to get to youtube.com/watch?v=QbarJaN1kUQ but it just took me back to my channel - the conspiracy grows!!! LOL

  • Anyone else notice that the audio in the beginning (during the still pics) is the sound from Jordi Ribera's trick video? :p you can hear Jordi say "Okay. That's it" just before the actual video footage begins ;)

  • hi MrNocco - i got this from the Dutch (?) subtitled (as you see) documentary 'Irek Mukhamedov - Power and the Art' - i added some sound from the doco to the images - of anthony dowell coaching Mukhamedov - to set the right atmosphere for class practice footage - it's anthony dowell who approves what Mukhamedov has just done in class. might sound like Jordi Ribera but it's dowell. cheers

  • sr. the name of this great dancer is Irek Mukhamedov, not Erik.

  • hi carlosarya - thanks for the correction - i keep making this mistake over and over - i can't believe it - well, yes i can! thanks, cheers, nick

try and listen to that, and the beginning of this video

  • @sallyjdawg - as i was just comenting to karenofbethany, i left london before Erik arrived and so unfortunately didn't see any of his work with the royal ballet :< - lucky you though!

  • hi karenofbethany - yes, i love it too - pity about the distracting subtitles - sadly i'm not so technically accomplished to be able to get rid of them! i've seen and really admired his Spartacus and Bolshoi Romeo - i left london before he arrived so unfortunately didn't see any of his work with the royal ballet. cheers from sydney

  • love this! I saw his Manon with Viviana in '98 or so - I loved them! thank you for posting this.
