Joe Walsh Fantastic Guitar Solo.

The 8 bit audio from a Panosonic LUMIX DMC was transfered into Pro Tools. EQs and filters were applied, but it was amazing how well it recorded the guitar solo to begin with and it seemed to work quite well within the narrow confines of the camera's frequency response. This $350 camera was purchased 3 years ago, yet the results are impressive.

The built in microphone consists 4 holes located on the top of the camera body. There must be onboard compresion because I fully expected nothing but distortion due to the brute force of the pressure waves. The detail of the solo is amazing and didn't need much adjustment with Pro Tools pug-ins..

Followng the tweaking process, the rhythm section was improvised, with more concentration on the drums. The bass was kept simple. The snare hits and some of the kicks and fills bled through the out front guitar enough to make a close approximation of what was being played and could actually be lined up by looking at the wave form. The aim was to approximate the backup band. All of the samples came from a Roland JV 1080. The tricky part was lining it back up with the video using Quicktime Pro, a $30 program, so it's a little off, but not enough to make a big difference. Not a lot of time was spent on it, but I think it came out ok...
