Lower Ninth Ward

Some folks and I returning from a gut with Common Ground, in the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans. I had wanted to spend time taking lots of pictures but there wasn't time for that this day - so I took lots of pictures, in video format. Speaking of format, I did sacrifice some quality for size; I'm still learning how to do these things, so I hope this is watchable. In any event, it ought to get the point across; that over a year later (this was taken October 17, 2006), the Lower Ninth is still struggling. The situation in New Orleans is... ridiculous, as in I'm flummoxed? But the people of New Orleans are fantastic, and deserve all the help and awareness they can get.

Hey... we "know" each other from the Common Ground web forums, if not in person. I was just there for my 'second tour,' for three weeks, left Dec. 24 - will return as soon as I can. You never did tell me if we knew each other in person. You know, I haven't gotten to spend as much time talking with the residents of the L9 who are rebuilding as I'd like. Next time for that, hopefully! I'll look at your videos, for sure. Thanks for the comment!

It still looks bad almost THREE years later. Thank God for Common Ground and other grassroots efforts, cuz who else would do it?
