'Aan Rika' (For Rika) performed and written by the Leiden based trio, Demsey, a song based on a poem by the Dutch poet, Piet Paaltjens, who lived in Leiden in the 19th century. The song is about a man on a train who sees a woman through the window of a passing train a woman, who he immediately falls in love with. The poem ends with the words:
Maar, Rika, wat kon zaaliger voor mij zijn,
Dan, onder hels geratel en gestamp,
Met u verplet te worden door één trein?
(But Rika what could be more delightful for me,
Than, under infernal rattling and stamping,
To be crushed by a train with you?)
Maarten Witkam - vocals, violin, recorder/whistle
Ferry Rigault - vocals, guitar
Michael van Hoogenhuyze - accordian
