This illustrates the discrepancy between the onboard water temp gauge and what the scangauge indicates. This is important if you are running WVO on a manual system

  • I think you are correct with the 2 sensor idea because I noticed that the additional coolant sensor I installed for the SVO kit I have installed mirrors the temp. Of the scanguage

  • What year is the car?

  • It;s a 2002

  • quite surprising the car gauge is so far out, especially when they both be receiving the same signals from the ECU.

  • I agree. I do remember another TDI owner on the forums mentioning the discrepancy and he changed out his thermostat for one that opened at a higher temp thereby getting a more accurate readout.

    Is it the same sensor?

  • majority of cars water temp gauges have big buffers like that. Youd find the same thing from a bmw to a honda. The stock gauge will show normal operating temp a lot sooner than is actually the case. Same on the other end. if you start to over heat the stock gauge wont move north until its really gone up(where the scan gauge would obviously show it right away).

  • I ve had a VW Polo (a small car maybe not available in North America) built 1995, and i found it strange how fast its temp gauge reached the 90°C mark (190°F) but then it was nailed tightly at 90°C...

It's Volkswagen temp gauges...they don't tell the truth!

  • just add a separate termometer to your WVO tank and monitor acctual oil temperature not the coolant temperature. Wouldnt it be easier?

  • does it measure turbo boost pressure?

  • there might be two sensors for computer and one for guage the real temp isnt on dash since the thermostat alows temp to go around 200 then cools goes up then goes down constantly

  • interesting, well I'd assumed they would only use one sensor. But maybe not if he was able to swap it out for a higher temp one.

Would be interesting to see what happens with the scan gauge readout with the different sensor.
