  • That's right. More fun to drive than any other car I, or my family has ever driven! It's lasted 32 years and it's still going strong. I can modify and maintain it without breaking my bank, and everyone that I meet loves it. Pinto forever!

  • def a valvetrain problem, either lifters need or or one is fucked up or the rocker arm is ticking on the valve

  • I shouldn't have to worry about this for some time now. Just converted over to a roller cam setup from a 91 Mustang! :)

  • Figured out the noise. The sound turned out to be a bad lifter on the #2 intake valve. The oil fill hole for it wasn't lined up with the oil delivery passage and dried out. Replaced that lifter and a worn one on the #4 intake and all is better now! :)

  • yes those hydraulic lifters rely on oil to fill them so they can lift and adjust to the cam and it sounds like a bad lifter to me

  • That was what I was thinking. Think I should change rockers out at the same time?

The lifters stop ticking once the car warms up.

  • pinto LOL

  • i know the simply way to find out where the noise is coming from , simple steps

1# take off negitive batter off

2# take off the belt off

3# now turn every part with your hand and see if you hear any noise from either of one (tensioner arm pully, water pump, air conditioning comressor, power streeing pump, alternator .

4# find out which is making the smallest noise .

mine was on my 2004 f-150 tensioner arm pully , that only cost me $17 dollars at auto zone .

  • actually have the same problem the engine has be readjusted meaning complete r&r( actualy buying anew engine, rebuild old one on spare time ) start for in your case the oil pump cause you dont have any oil movement going the the head and soon bottom end torward your connecting rod to the sleeves, soon or later you going to have back fire meaning th the lifter and rocker be replace readjusted change: timing belt and oil pump see if clear up, it take less than one rotation have oil go thru

  • i think a lot of these have this problem. Mine does! i just turn up the stereo and you don't have to listen to it! and i'm getting a turbo coupe engine for it soon anyway so i should be fine

  • in the uk our version of this engine uses adjustable solid lifters.

  • slick 50

  • i would recommend a thinner oil if it is taking its time to fill the lifters

  • anyone know how i can check if a lifter is bad?like maybe pushing it with a screw driver?im trying to see wich lifter is bad on my 5.0 but i cant push them in to see if they r bad .or r they stuck?or its not possible to check them this way?ive heard thats how u check m but im not to sure.any ideas?
