Bill decides to give fatherhood a try by adopting a baby which meets with varied reactions from his coworkers.

Bill: If this was Logan's Run I'd be Soylent Green by now.

Bill manages to combine two science fiction movies in one allusion. Logan's Run (1976) is set in a futuristic society where citizens are put to death when they reach their 30th birthday. Soylent Green (1973) is a dystopian tale of an overpopulated Earth where the elderly and dying are manufactured into food.

During the opening credits Jimmy spins and throws his hat in the air in imitation of The Mary Tyler Moore Show.

Lisa: I'm not selfish and self-centered, am I?
Dave: I think you should bear in mind you're asking an ex-boyfriend.
Lisa: No. I'm asking an employee.
Dave: Well, then no.

I always feel sad whenever this show mentions something about Bill getting stalked or, as in this episode, having his hair set on fire while sleeping, considering Phil's wife killed him while he was sleeping.

But still, NewsRadio is by far the funniest show.
