MUSIC: Helen Miller / LYRICS: Estelle Levitt

We wrote on the corner of the table
This is the only one that will last
For you, for me, for always
Forever was made for us but
For us it went by too fast

Don't say you don't remember
I'll never love anyone else
If you say you don't remember
How can I go on living with myself?

When we meet you always call me "baby"
How could it be that you forgot my name?
Before you go, be honest
I belonged to you and
Believed that you felt the same

Don't say you don't remember
I'll never love anyone else
If you say you don't remember
How can I go on living with myself?

People never stay the same forever
Somebody always loves a little more
Tonight I need to love you
Together we'll find a way
To make tomorrow worth living for

Don't say you don't remember
I'll never love anyone else
If you say you don't remember
How can I go on living with myself?

This 70s heartache ballad by Beverly Bremers is so good, it deserves its own video... so I made one. The photos are from Beverly's website (check it out):

Released in 1971, then re-released in 1972, "Don't Say..." peaked at #15 on the charts in February 1972.

Beverly Bremers remembers composer Helen Miller on Helen's memorial Facebook page:

"Helen Miller was a genius, a lunatic, and a tough cookie, who lived life to the fullest - loud & large. It was a privilege to work with her on "Don't Say You Don't Remember". She knew what she wanted & she got it. I also recorded the demos for "Inner City" with her and the amazing Carl Hall, who later performed in the show. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to be in it because of a commitment to another show, but I sure wish I could've. Great songs in that show! What an amazing body of work she created in her life! Anyone who has ever crossed paths with this complex woman will always remember her ; - ) I miss her music, her spirit, & her dirty jokes. I even miss her yelling at me."

  • Are there any videos of Beverly sing this song on an early tv show ?

  • @jstarr1717 According to Beverly, "There are no existing copies of my performing that song to my knowledge. Most were taped over, such as my 'American Bandstand' appearance. The only one is a short lip-synched appearance on 'The Dating Game', which I don't think has surfaced on the web."

  • Is it true that she recorded this beautiful song at age 14 ??

  • @raiderdanCA No, Beverly was in her early 20s when she recorded this. But her first records were recorded a few years earlier, in the 60s.

  • 250,000+ views! Thanks to everybody for your support, and Happy Halloween!

  • When I was a kid, I always thought this was Marie Osmond singing-HA HA!

    Donna~

  • @donnamariemoreno27 Actually, several people have posted that, way back when, they thought this was DONNY Osmond singing. :D

  • I used to LOVE this song. Still do. Reminds me of my grammar school crush. Ohhh, the angst!

  • This was a diamond, lost in the rock and roll crazy days of the early 70's but what a great song.

I love it, the words are special and she had a great voice. Even charting back in '72 it really had almost a mid 60's kind of sincere message that we all know is timeless and classic. I could see Skeeter Davis or the likes recording this wonderful song. Lost in the dust, this is a keeper for those special mellow music kind of times I would hope we all have once in a while.

  • I loved it I was in training in the Navy made me miss girls at home

  • You won't read this David, I'm so sorry :,(

  • A song as good as this deserves two million hits...minmum.

  • You can not beat the wall of sound-- glorious

  • Only wish I coud see her singing it even it fake--the old wall of sound still holds up--a sweet be bob tune

  • Beautiful. Songs not bad either. Bellisima!

  • She had such a awesome voice to go with such a beautiful face. What ever happen to her, does she still perform. Seems like she disappear around 1974.

  • Haven't heard this in a while. What a great voice she has!
