Wrong Wrong Wrong. Roger is a great artist. The Skye Boat song is great. It should not be translated. German songs are best in German. Scottish songs in Scottish. Sorry for the whinge

It's pure magic to hear Roger perform. It makes my spine tingle to! I so wish I'd been to see him live.

@Metalead666 I thought the first minute and twenty four was german too

I will always love listening to the songs of bird singer... ♥ ♥ ♥

he sounds like a seagul...

Utter garbage. First he mimics some sort of bird, then does an impression of a German. I don't think so, Roger! Perhaps if you had even the remotest connection with Scotland, you wouldn't have the effrontery to trash one of her dearest ballads. Just you stick to the English and Irish folk music, boring and unmemorable as they are.

@iceguyred123 exactly i agree, there are many folksongs in many cultures but to say that german songs should stay german a scottish should stay scottish is absurd, after all Roger was born in Nairobi, if we're gonna quote such nonsense then we may as well say Roger should only sing Kenyan songs! LOL

songs can be translated to fit whatever audience you have, it doesnt matter what they were originally. Roger Whittaker was good at singing in german, then again so were other artists who were not german like Nana Mouskouri & Jantje Smit. In fact Roger was born in Kenya & wasn't fluent in german till recently, he began with singing his german songs phonetically until he could sing them from memory. i came from a german background so at xmas time i sang carols in both english & german.

Amazing how he could get the sound of seagulls on a deserted shore down perfectly. Always loved Roger's whistling and couldn't wait to hear it again. Tried so hard to whistle like him when I was younger! lol. What a blast from the past.

@niwty Sorry to pull you up on saying it is a song about peace and love. Wrong, it is about Bonnie Prince Charlie escaping to Skye from Uist after being defeated at the Batlle of Culloden, before he could be killed, Not really very much about peace and love there.

@Metalead666 I only recognize the first and the last part. It's a birdy language :)
