The National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C., which houses one of the largest collections of Native artifacts, has a distinctive form in rough-hewn limestone from Minnesota. From January 4-10, 2012, Tsimshian carver David Boxley and his son (seen in the video) completed and painted a 22-foot totem pole as artists-in-residence at the museum. Commissioned by the museum for its Potomac Atrium, the totem pole will be officially unveiled Saturday, January 14 as part of the museum's Native Storytelling Festival, January 13-15.
