The South Shore Drill Team was the crowd favorite at the 2008 Persimmon Festival Parade in Mitchell Indiana.

From their Web-site www.southshoredrillteam.org

The South Shore Drill Team & Performing Arts Ensemble was established in 1980 by former Chicago Public School teacher, Arthur Robertson with only 4 members (Curtis Davis, Randall Robertson, Kevin Ray, and Darrell Jones). Today the organization has a membership count of 300+, ranging from ages 9-21. The team sees 99.5% of its high school students graduate, and nearly all go to college or technical school, breaking a cycle of poverty. The group was designed as an alternative to gang activity, high school drop outs, and teen pregnancy. The group offers young people an opportunity to develop self-esteem, self-discipline, goals for their future, and a chance to travel.

  • in my opinion .. the South Shore Drill Team from Chicago should have been in the Obama Inauguration parade. I've seen them in person more than once .. and they were the greatest drill team I've ever seen.

  • Ok, so some of the dance could be tighter--but I think that's more a result of the different sized bodies--the very small, young kids--but probably more in keeping with the spirit to have them.

Still, they would give the better suburban kids (who probably have years and years of professional dance, and all the best equipment, etc) a run for their money.

  • @zana821 is that a compliment?

  • south shore drill team yall did a wonderful job yall had practice and that is what made perfect i reamber when i was on the south shore drill team and practiced at the gary comer center but yall did a good job

  • @noland628 no, the bud biliken parade has nothing to do with Milwaukee or the Harleys ; it takes place in Chicago ; from like 35 and Dr. MLK Dr. to 55 And King dr. i think ; its just a celebration where we all just enjoy the festivals , reunite with people, eat , and have fun .

P.S. im sorry for snapping earlier i thought you were trying to be racist and funny .

  • south shore drill team know how to dance

  • they know how to dance

  • These guys are OFF THE CHAIN!!!!! It is so refreshing to see our young people doing something positive, and having a great time doing it. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

  • Just a note.....America is mostly made up of segregated communities by race and cultural groups. Don't act brand new because you see an all white this and all black that. The south shore drill team was started 30 years ago in Chicago, in a predom black neighborhood and have performed all over the world. Now if some non blacks want to participate than can, but how many of them are willing to come into a black neighborhood and actually join? Enjoy the video and stop race baiting. Its not that deep

  • Sounds like your racist to me. When you da fend yo Ra-ce only.

If the Bible is anywhere near to being true,

Then God is no respector of persons.

We are all equal to him...

Sorry if the writers of the Constitution of this country, did not include the NATIVES, blacks, asians, and others. When they stated that all men all created equal.

They were only looking out for themselves at that moment in history.
