Of course one has to stop quite quickly sometimes on a bicycle. However, in a crash, the head usually experiences a yaw or a pitch, in addition to the abrupt stop. Both of which are probably the triggers for the helmet to deploy.

that's not a helmet, it's an airbag. better than nothing, but it's not a helmet. i don't like that you have to rely on it to inflate

next time you slam on your brakes in the car, notice that the airbag doesnt deploy

same as if you back into a light pole, no airbag (unless you are going like 30 miles per hour)

same concept in the helmet.

Bicycles have near crashes and abrupt stops often. That may set it off easily.
