A cool little box! So primitive and cute! The 606 was the percussion side-kick to the TB-303. It even looks like the 303. It stores up to 32 patterns and 8 songs. The 606 allows switching between Pattern Play and Write mode while running - making the 606 the only drumcomputer in the X0X series that can be edited while performing and switching patterns. It is also possible to link up to 4 consecutive patterns in Pattern Play mode. There is only a mono audio output, however there are mods from Kenton Electronics and Analog Solutions that will add individual outputs for each drum tone.

The 606 has seven analog drum sounds which are simple, yet great! Kick, Snare, 2 toms, open hat, closed hat, cymbal, accent. The hi-hats are a very tinny electronic sound and its toms are great for soft tribal patterns. These seven sounds alone are still quite popular today, and the 606 has been used by Uberzone, Cirrus, Sneaker Pimps, Download, Aphex Twin, Astral Projection, Nine Inch Nails, Mr. Oizo, Jimi Tenor, Kid 606, OMD, Moby, Freddy Fresh, Autechre, Luke Vibert, and Union Jack.

  • Honest opinion pls

    Which is better tr-606 or tr-707 ?

  • both are tatally diferent, personally i like both, 606 very pure electronic sound, 707 are sample sounds suitable for house music wich is very nice sounding especially the hi-hats , SD and BD, you decide waht you need.

    cheers

    pepe

  • how ypou synced your 606 with the future retro ?? the 606 has no midi, and the futureretro has no cv/gate

  • the Future retro has CV / Gate out + Sync Out TR-type cable, and the 606 has a Sync in and sync out so is very easy to sync bout in fact this demo i didnt use a computer or midi at all, just those two brothers there

    ;)

    cheers

  • is there cowbells on these?

  • What size is the output on these?

  • @Synthomania 2 Years later and nothing much has changed.

  • Ho yeah ! it's so good , i love this beat box! best sound !

  • @admdc01

    its only 8bit

  • @admdc01 probably if you like bad.. haha

  • @Synthomania : rebirth from propellerhead will do :-)

  • I hate the DX7 as well. I didn't even like it when it was new.

  • to some degree may be, but the dx7 always was and always will be a giant turd. I was there in the 1980's when Dave smith started the whole midi protocol we all love so much today. Every 2nd hand shop was full of analogue gear, tb303's, moogs, arps etc as everyone went mad for the new digital sound.

i've had three DX7's so far but never will again, its easier to use the native instruments FM8 Vst version

Phase modulation synths would be the best thing to get hold of.

    very underrated.

  • great vid !
