COLOMBUS TO MATES: We shall use these madafckrs Indians as a slave labor force to harvest the riches of the islands.
MATES TO COLOMBUS: YEAH LET'S FUCKIN DO THAT BOSS! The context of the colonization of the West Indies by Spain contained, from the beginning, the political directive of using the Indians as a slave labor force to harvest the riches of the islands. The Arawaks, however, had a very high rate of mortality from suicide, back breaking slave labor, massacres and the lack of immune resistance to European diseases like measles, influenza and small pox. One epidemic of small pox, for example, killed 200.000 Arawaks of Hispagnola in the early Fifteenhundreds. When the Arawaks inhabitants of an island disappeared, there was the possibility of replacing them by importing Indian labor from another island. One example of this system of replacement was the deportation of the Lucayans of the Bahamas. Between 1500 and 1520, the total Lucayan population which was about 40.000 was carried off to work in the gold mines, the pearl fisheries of other parts of the West Indies. When the Arawaks population started to disappear within a few years after the arrival of Christopher Columbus, the lack of man power fermented the idea of the introduction of the African slaves. SO HAPPY FUCKIN COLOMBUS SHIT AMERICA: Saccharum Officinarum in de asses of the Pope, Henry the Navigator Prince of Portugal and Charles V King of Spain.
In 2002, under president Hugo Chávez, the name was changed to Día de la Resistencia Indígena (Day of Indigenous Resistance) to commemorate the Indigenous peoples' resistance to European settlement. On October 12, 2004 a mob of pro-government activists toppled the statue of Columbus in Caracas and sprayed allusive graffiti over its pedestal. The pro-Chávez, left-wing website Aporrea wrote: "Just like the statue of Saddam in Baghdad, that of Columbus the tyrant also fell this October 12, 2004 in Caracas."[The famous toppling of Saddam Hussein's statue had occurred the previous year.
