Still baffles me why they didn't stay on the PS2 I bet Oddworld have regretted it since.
And the game for the PS2 had so much going for it.

Hardly. Sony was hard to develop for even during the PS2 days, and Lanning became increasingly frustrated with them. Micro$oft welcomed all developers with open arms and a lovely "work-with-you attitude", which allowed a lot of series to eventually jump ship or at least cross-platform.
Plus, M$ threw a lot of money out there to get devs to come in too.
