  • Stop the presses.

    Creationist prediction is correct.

    per wikipedia article chimpanzee_genome_project

"At the site of fusion, there is approximately 150,000 base pairs of sequence not found in chimpanzee chromosomes 2A and 2B. Additional linked copies of the genes exist elsewhere in the HUMAN genome, particularly near the p end of chromosome 9. This suggests that a copy of these genes may have been added to the end of the ancestral 2A or 2B PRIOR to the fusion event"

    Ancestors quite human..

  • Sorry, but no Creationist prediction was confirmed.

But that does not mean (despite what I said) that it was 2 CHIMP chromosomes that fused to produce our chromosome 2.

It means that the 2 ancestral APE chromosomes that fused to produce human chromosome 2 were MORE LIKE chimp chromosomes than those from other apes (which we more distantly related to).

I was looking at the diagram and it has only MODERN SPECIES chromosomes, so I guess I incorporated the terms used on the diagram.

The evidence is still valid, I just misspoke.

  • Sorry I was abrupt with you the first time. I see now where you probably got your wrong idea from .... ME!

I just watched this again and some times I say it correctly and some times I do not.

Starting at 2:46 I say that human chromosome 2 is the fusion product of two CHIMP chromosomes. That is WRONG! I misspoke.

When human chromosome 2 is compared to logically fused pairs from other apes, our banding pattern most closely matches that of CHIMPS. They are our nearest living ...

  • No. Chimps are a modern species, as are humans.

Chimps and humans share a common ancestor, which was neither a chimp nor a human, that lived some 5 to 7 million years ago (not sure about the latest values).

  • Sigh. I see that trying to have an intelligent discussion with you is not possible.

I've laid out the evidence: that's all I can do. If you want to be a retard, so be it.

  • Bob is a sentient creature! Not a mindless force. This is what I said in the beginning. You have found God's fingerprints on DNA!

  • I never said that the chromosomal fusion CAUSED the speciation of humans.

As to why I foist it as evidence of evolution ... um ... because it is evidence of evolution!

Did Bob's fingerprints on the murder weapon CAUSE Bob to murder the other person? Nope. Are Bob's fingerprints on the murder weapon excellent evidence that Bob did murder the other person? Yep.

  • So you are saying that fusion of an apes chromosomes in the Telomere regions now wouldn't produce a new species? So why do you foist this as evidence for evolution? If it does not contribute in a causal way to a new species now, it would not have in the past. The problem is biology needs to know more about how DNA functions before it claims to much. This 48 vs 46 chromosme count thing is just a curious artifact that doesn't lead to anything testable concerning evolution.

  • Human chromosome 2 is the result of the fusion of two ancestral ape chromosomes IN THEIR TELOMERE REGIONS. No genes were lost, added, or rearranged. There's no good reason why this fusion by itself would produce a new species.

And as I mentioned in the mouse example, the populations that had very different chromosome sets (karyotypes) due to multiple fusions are still the same species ... Mus musculus.
