This is more troubling than comforting. These individuals are allowing everything they know about themselves to go asunder. I cannot bring myself to believe that such self-sacrifice benefits anybody, not the world, not the nuns themselves.

My OPINION (note the word) is that this a self-serving mind trip, regardless of how humble, silent, and austere it may be. I find it tragic.

I say bravo to all the men and women in the world who have the courage to follow the call of God in their heart, no matter what that call might be. I myself feel an immense attraction to the cloistered Carmelites and am considering discerning for religious vocation.

its true you should not judge a situation on a narrow minded and worldly basis.how can you say that life in the monastery or in the convent is bad when you did not even experienced living in it?i myself can say that my experience inside the convent walls is the most beautiful and the most joyful moments of my life.living with JESUS and with the nuns.i plan to go back and answer the call of JESUS Now.i know there will be trials but with JESUS i will bear it.

When you have a complete spiritual union with Jesus Christ, he is your Spiritual spouse, the Love is deeper then any other. Well any other I have experience. I am a Widow with four children (young) and about to join the Carmelite Secular order, one day if it is Gods will I will be a full Spouse of Jesus. God Bless you all.

The simple truth is that you can serve the Lord without going to such extremes. It is sad that they think this is the best way to serve God.
