"What's the story, Jerry?" was the start of the catch phrase for these well-loved NY commercials ... In the mid-1970's, Jerry Rosenberg, a pot-bellied man in a hardhat, enthusiastically plugs his JGE (Jamaica Gas & Electric) appliances stores. JGE didn't last, so after that venture Jerry got into the disco business using the same 'That's the story!!!' formula.
I remember "Jerry's Disco" teens would have so much fun there back in the late 70's to the very early 80's. They would play..."Come To Me", by France Joli"...great memories...

You think your going out of your mind when you ask your sisters if they remember this guy and the phrase "whats the story" I was really little but its still in my head. Now FINALLY I have found it and I guess I am still crazy but I know I really saw it. Man its great to track these things down from ones youth. Like I remember "Koogla" peanutbutter, in chocolate, vinilla, bananna etc. mom never would let me get it, Here comes Koogla with the Koog Koog Koogily eyes! or something to that effect.

I bought a black and white portable TV at his store in Bayside. It was on a week night and the place was crowded.

here's the genesis of the tag line from a '74 article:
Rehearsing the commercial, Jerry Rosenberg asked a moonlighting policeman to sit down and listen to a typical customer. The policeman said, "All right, so what's the story, Jerry?" Staring hard at the man, Mr. Rosenberg broke out in a grin and said: "I like it. Let's use it."

What about the original, the one that made the largest impression ever of all commercials, at least to me?

I remember when JGE had a jewelry store-- the commercial was a big musical production number, which was very different from the regular JGE ads!
