  • The bass on this track is beyond awful. The voice does not work, no conviction, absolutely nothing on Tom Waits. Don't cover Tom Waits without knowing exactly what you're doing or you're gunna have the army of Waits on your ass!

  • This isn't as good as the original, but it's not as bad as everyone seems to think. They just gave it a different sort of character.

  • Lesson #1:

If you're not a GENIUS in making music or your voice has not a soul of its own...DO NOT COVER TOM WAITS!!!

This is by far the worst cover I've heard of a Tom Waits' song!!!!

And I've heard the ones made by Scarlett Johansson!!!! O_O!!!

  • OMG :(

  • @billytheirishman sorry billy. that whole post was a shot at mega black. it was hella childish. admitted. and i love tom waits. i was being an ass. i think i even made up with mega. if not, i would. :) and u r right. it was just wrong! lol.

  • I remember reading about this cover. The Femmes said that since Waits declined to produce one of their albums, they decided to butcher one of his songs. Not being bitchy; that's actually what they said.

  • I am a huge fan of the tom waits version, but I will admit I can appreciate this. Its different. While waits pours his heart into the sales pitch, these guys seem to be mocking the whole thing, which I can accept as a different interpretation. No art is bad. Art is not a contest. There is art that you can appreciate and art you can't. Thats all.

  • @MissyJustMissy to call anything tom waits does a jazz abortion is just wrong. he does not try to imitate louie armstromg, thats just the way he sings. i happen to be a fan of tom waits and the violent femmes and they are both very original. if you dont like tom waits, dont listen. there is no reason to talk shit about him. he did not make it into the rock and roll hall of fame by aborting jazz as you so closed mindedly put it.

  • @Hoglegvid

no amount of beer can make this good.....

Love Tom and Love the Femmes, but this sucks!
