The Road To Serfdom.
By Friedrich August Hayek

The Road to Serfdom is a book written by Friedrich Hayek (recipient of the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1974) and originally published by Routledge Press in March 1944 in the UK and then by the University of Chicago in September 1944. In April, 1945, Reader's Digest published a slightly shortened version of the book (still in print from the Institute of Economic Affairs), which eventually reached more than 600,000 readers. Around 1950 a picture-book version was published in Look Magazine, later made into a pamphlet and distributed by General Motors. The book has been translated into approximately 20 languages and is dedicated to "The socialists of all parties". The introduction to the 50th anniversary edition is written by Milton Friedman (another recipient of the Nobel Prize in Economics [1976]). In 2007, the University of Chicago Press put out a "Definitive Edition". The Road to Serfdom is among the most influential and popular expositions of classical liberalism and libertarianism.
This single book has significantly shaped the political ideologies of Ron Paul, Margaret Thatcher, Ronald Reagan and the concepts of 'Reagonomics' and 'Thatcherism'. It also led to the revival of Neoclassical economics in the West and lessening the Keynesian influence.

  • Just seen your profile, a RP supporter eh? Good, 'cause he's the last chance you've got (I'm not American). They'll try to kill him. Guard him well.

  • I try to spread the message of protecting RP to all supporters when attending rallies in my written blogs...

  • Poor example of scapegoating. The Jews were guilty then, and they are guilty now.

  • It's not fair to blame a whole culture of people. There are good and bad in all walks of like. Is Bush a Jew? No. We have to get away from blaming race, gender or creed for our problems. In my eyes, You're either a good person or a bad person. Period.

  • why is it that all of these boneheaded free market guys, whose theories have been proven wrong, time and time again, all received the Nobel Prize. Apparently, the Nobel is no different than the Grammy or the Oscar.

  • Interesting. I think I'd rather read the book. Waiting until someone checks it back into the library. This is a great starting place for the book though. Thank you.

Kinda wanted to choke the music though. Seriously just beat the crap out of it. Can't explain why, lol.

  • This is the belief that John Holder, Obama's science czar holds. He is a malthuesian who has stated that a certain number of people must be eliminated so the rest can share the earth's resorces.

  • I am reading this book now...Hayek was so spot-on.

  • Being "bound" and held static in any system isn't natural to the human being. Whoever contrived a plan to place limits on the unlimited is perverted in their thinking and will be unsuccessful in their plan.

We are born into a world to experience or so "they" say. That hole we fill w/things-spiritual and material is bottomless.

There is a fire that burns inside and it's fueled w/experience - we feed it - we want a raging fire for only the raging fire gets the attn of the water to extinguish it.

  • Any "plan" would be an easier sell if there were fewer ppl.

(6+ billion minds all with separate beliefs.

This "constitution" - "this make up" of such individuality - they'd would never agree on anything)

"We shall convince them - a "new Age" is upon us. We shall use historical solar data that helps us predict & plan when to implement stages"

    solar minima = apathy

solar maxima=revolutions+ wars and/or high achievements

Beatle, in history, was the system of "ownership" revealed to the people?

  • I like the Definitive Edition edited by Bruce Caldwell. At times, Hayak had his dates wrong, or the event, and sometimes even credits the wrong book - though the correct author. Bruce Caldwell masterfully researched all of these and claifies them, though it has no bearing on the central theme of the book., The Road to Serfdom. The Reader's Digest version is what I'll provide one of my brothers. He was put off by sentences that were whole paragraphs long.

  • Very cool video. Nice choice in music!
