"I'm moving the rest of them now, and I need you to confirm the coordinates. AND GET ME A NEW PAIR OF PANTS!!"

@svartekaptenen - Did you read "Contact"? At the end of the book, she sets up a SETI like network to evaluate PI. She finds a perfect circle deep in the non-repeating decimal. Evidence of God's existence.

The only problem is that the measure of frequency that we use on earth,in this case giga hertz, is based on cycles per second, the second being an arbitrary earth unit based off the rotation of the earth (or if you really need to get specific the duration of 9,192,631,770 periods of the radiation corresponding to the transition between the two hyperfine levels of the ground state of the caesium 133 atom.) An alien civilization would have no reason to measure their broadcast in this way
-
@jimahr basically the idea is that if an alien civilization is sending out a signal somewhere in the billions of ghz they'd use something that is universal, like the frequency of hydrogen times pi which is the lines in a hydrogen atom times the ratio of the circumference to diameter of a circle. ok tl;dr hydrogen times pi results in a universal quantity no matter the base (base 7, 8, math etc) you use.
-
At 4:24 she says hydrogen times pi. Any ideas what she means?

Enough of the religion vs science old thing... I only want to know where did Fisher get that shirt. XD

I really liked this film - especially the ending when she goes through the space wormhole - but the casting of Jodie Foster and Matthew McConaughey as lovers was less than believable and kind of laughable.
Pretty good film I only wish that they could leave out the
superstitious babble, quite ironic that Carl Sagan was not
impressed with religion at all.

@svartekaptenen it's not about religion (superstitious babble) but it's about belief & believing and finding your destiny and your inner soul.

@XtOfje In short superstitious babble, besides this was not even in the book, that is something
Hollywood has added, I seriously doubt that Sagan would had allowed that if he had lived.
