LesMis Chelmsford Concert
August 24, 1997

Ruthie Henshall as Fantine singing "I Dreamed A Dream". This is a much better performance than the one in the 10th Anniversary Concert DVD imho. Enjoy!

  • get a good record version. this is a crap microphone

  • @newmanwong

    Do it yourself then. Why the hell should I do it for you? Go right ahead, find a better copy if you can.

  • @raspberryicedtea

    Me too. Apparently, a lot of people only became familiar with Les Mis through Susan Boyle or worse, Nick Jonas. Comments comparing Susan Boyle to musical theatre legends such Elaine Paige & Patti LuPone are quite amusing but there are times when they get to my nerves.

  • It´s lovely! Do you have more of this concert? I would love to hear some more songs because it seems like a great cast.

    Sincerely

    Max=)

  • @MaximiliasAccount

    Yeah, I have the whole concert. Other cast members include Jeff Leyton (Valjean), Frances Ruffelle (Eponine), Annalene Beechey (Cosette), Gay Soper (Madame), & Adam Searles (Gavroche). I'll try to post some more in my spare time. :)

  • Only Ruthie. Incredibile.

  • Her voice sounds like a toad's and she doesn't act. She shouldn't even be compared with the brilliant Lea Salonga. This is such a lifeless performance.

  • When Ruthie Henshall sings this song.... I see Fantine's journey -the joyful, sexual, hedonistic time she spent with the student who knocked her up. You rarely get that in versions of this song - You often get the song washed in the tragedy, but that's a given. When Ruthie sings, "He slept a summer by my side," you see that time of bliss and her innocence, culpability, loss.... She's the best - P

  • Ruthie nailed this song --she sings with such emotion and passion . It's clear that she was IN THE ZONE when she took this role . Ruthie is an amazing talent and deserves more better credit than some folks have given her . I've listened to many versions of this song by various performers , they're all GOOD but Ruthie stands out among those who have sung this piece -- Thanks for posting !!

  • And knowing she kicked and strutted the goods in Chicago as Velma and Roxie. Love her guts!

  • even with the poor sound, which I will not criticize, it is what it is, Ruthie's power, beauty and voice still shines through.
