A very cool time lapse of gravity waves impacting a cloud layer. The idiots at Warner Music Group considered a small portion of a song from the late 1960's was too precious and charged copyright infringement, so the new soundtrack for this video is by Aalborg Ambient Soundtracks.

  • gravity waves are caused by a restoring force of the bouyancy or thermodynamics of the atmosphere. as air is heated it rises and cools but its momentum caries it past its equilibrium point. that causes it to be cooler than air around it thus the sinking motion which heats up the air. That momentum caries it past the EQ point causing the same process again.

Thumbs up if you'd rather have seen the higher quality in the first place.

  • copyrights suck

    great vid tnx

  • @billythekid844 Ummm... okay. Gravity waves do happen to many other things.

  • different type of gravity waves

  • Gravity waves arent proven. If gravity waves are the cause, they would probably do that to many other things too not just the clouds. Still a cool phenomenon regardless.

  • amazing! btw first comment in two months!

  • first text since 1 year.!

  • Seems like it`s in the speed of 1:60. It`s around 3 waves in the camera width and each wave takes on an average, 10 minutes to cover the entire width. Besides, The perspective is sensational!.

  • What he said...lol. Just think of it as a strong force knocking the clouds out of equilibrium...and the layer of clouds trying to get back into equilibrium again.

  • Whoa, the atmostphere is a lot creepier in fast-motion.
