Cellini's first aria, celebrating his love to Teresa who he will meet in an hour to escape from Rome, is so sublime, it's comes as a surprise that it wasn't in the original score. Actually composed to show off a singer's ability (hence, the traditional structure of couplets and a simple, flowing line), Berlioz seems to have fallen in love with the piece, and it was invariably included in subsequent versions. Its' undramatic elegance sets it apart from the vivacity of the overall score but one cannot deny that it's a superb invocation of Cellini's feelings and a lovely remembrance of the French tradition. Enjoy :)!
