  • im a Campbell from the mull of kyntire and i have to say there was only one campbell there the rest were other clans and other macdonalds. The Campbells are the largest clan in scotland and the strongest and most succesful in battle. we are tru highlanders.

  • I have to disagree on the Campbell's being the biggest clan in Scotland considering the MacDonald's owned and ruled most of the North West and Western isles I do not have actual numbers but the size of the lands they had speaks for itself.

  • @dustysweeper

i dont mean to be rude or anything and if i come accross that way im sorry but, just because a clan has land does not mean its big the campbells had little land compared to other clans but the campbells are close to if not the largest Highland clan and for people saying that were traitors, thieves and liars are wrong we just chose not to support silly rebellions we knew when to and when not to fight. but i am a proud Campbell and i always will be

  • @residentevi4rock You're not being rude. But as I stated above the size of the lands and titles the macdonalds had says much about the respect the MacDonald clans had. And with regards to how the Campbell clan is perceived, history never really tells the truth now, does it? There were a few clans that stood to benefit by the demise of the McDonalds and the Campbells were one of them.

Oh and BTW Resident Evil 4 DOES rock...LOL.

  • i am kieran allan but i am a decendant of the macdonalds my great great gran was isabella macdonald and also a distant relation of mine was the colonel in chief of the black watch from 1844 to 1852 so if there is a macdonald out there you will also be related to me and him

  • Depends on what clan your great great gran was from.

    Not all MacDonalds are related

  • I admit that I am an American of Scottish descent. No, I was not born in Scotland but that does not preclude from having pride in MY family.

  • It was Thomas Babington ay who started the myth that Glencoe means the 'Glen of Weeping' (2:33). The valley is thought to take its name from the River Cona which flows through it.

  • Murder of the innocent and the buying and selling of the lives, is not something a campbell should be proud of. William was and will always be an insurper, being Catholic does not make you stupid.

  • In 2005 a study by Professor of Human Genetics Bryan Sykes of Oxford led him to the conclusion that Somerled has possibly 500,000 living descendants—making him the second most common currently-known ancestor after Genghis Khan.

to be more specific for you look up my familys history because if it started with him and hes the second most common currently known accestor your family aint even close to as big

  • @residentevil4roks the macdonalds are one of the largest and most famous clans from scotland and i am a macdonald of glencoe im not from there but thats what my clan is and i have to say if you think the campbells are bigger then the macdonalds your saddly mistaken did you know my family started with somerled and other then ghenkis khan he has the most reletives ever its believed he has over 500,000 thousand decendants alive today like i said only ghenkis khan has more so hows your family bigger

  • @dustysweeper not true look at the history all the clans started from family members branching off into other clans atleast from what ive read i havent read anything about a macdonald clan being started by someone who isnt a macdonald but do research on clan donald and see what you find and let me know because from my gatherings yes all MacDonalds, Macdonalds, McDonalds are related

  • with all the hate twords campbells and all you have actually done is listen to people that have no clue what their talking about, the massacre of clencoe is blammed on the campbell, and FACT is that out of like 30 soldiers there were 1 OR 2 campbells thats all and the black watch the first 3 regiments raised were Campbells. i dont get why people have such disdain for a clan they know NOTHING about, the campbells did not have anything to do with prince charlie and thats one reason we are hated

  • @residentevil4roks Cambells are not true highlanders. You guys were untrustworthy, thieves, and murders. You are the most hated clan in Scotland today. MacDonalds are the true highlanders.

  • @dustysweeper I'd have to agree with you. I am just finishing up my discussion of Glencoe and the subsequent inquiry in my latest thesis chapter. Allan Macinnes, interviewed here, used to be my PhD supervisor before he left Aberdeen Uni for Strathclyde.
