Just out of curiousity, what software are you using for your character voices?
(I'm in the development stages for my own indie film and am looking into Speech Synthesis options)

I use cepstral voices. You can download them from their website for free (though you have to put up with a nag message to register them that you'll also have to edit out, which is easy enough to do)
the best thing about cepstral voices is that you can control the pitch and timing with SSML tags to get the inflection and timing right, since it's usually badly rendered straight out of the text to speech app.
I've also used some of the AT&T tts voices from their website.

Yes these are computer voices, though they're much better than the microsoft sam voices I used in my rocketmen films.
