DAP contact cement is really smelly. The same techniques can be use by replacing DAP with Duck brand double-sided carpet tape. It's more expensive than DAP but works great and with no toxic vapor.

@hathegkla Hey thanks for the heads up. I just made a noodle blade and to be honest the thing isn't heavy at all, so balance is really not that much of a problem. Still, good to know that no matter what, it's not going to swing like a real sword.
