What this hook does is to keep the rubber motor centered on the prop shaft. If you were using a motor that is longer than the prop shaft to rear hook distance, which is what you need to do to get long flights, the motor can "walk" around a regular prop hook and create a lot of wobble and may actually come off of the prop shaft.
