@loonaloonyluvgood mostly because of the female vocalists but Lacuna Coil ventured into doom metal like in In A Reverie. Also in their demo song Shallow End(not to be confused with their album Shallow Life) they sounded something like Shades of God and Icon Era Paradise Lost which was doom/death.

@megaforce811 maybe theyre compared to evanescence most often cause they are much more like evanescence even as appearence than like those many others

Evanescence is just as good as Lacuna Coil, along with Within Temptation, Epica, Nightwish, and a whole lot of Metal and Black Symphany bands. Lacuna Coil is like a mix of that stuff if you listen closely to their instrumental.
