Do not sound like Kermit, what that is doing is covering your throat, making you sound good to yourself, making all of the sound and resonance stay in your skull. What you need to do is color the tone with your vowel shape more than cover up your tone.

To SING OPERA you must first have the TALENT! Secondly, if anyone is getting tips for this man plzz run away. I understand some people may want to sing or take private voice just for the fun of it but if your teacher is telling you to do this crap..RUN AWAY!
