How to install a CPU (Very Basic)

Installing a cpu can for some be a daunting task. I hope this video makes it easy especially as to how to ally thermal paste.

Nice tutorial,,,,and your right everyone has their own method, but trying them all I personal have not noticed a significant difference. I also prefer this method, but I do use a plastic card. Do you feel that the paper business card will deposit small paper fibers...not visible by the naked eye.

Nice video. I wanted to add that with my own testing, I've found that the difference in temperature on my old Q6600 using AS5 vs high quality white paste (like Thermalloy), there was only a 1 degree temp difference. I suspect if the CPU and or heatsink was not flat (or less so than it is now), there might have been a bigger advantage going towards AS5, but as long as the CPU and cooler are machined flat, its minimal. White paste cleans up real easy and is non conductive.

A razor blade works very well for spreading thermal paste btw

@Aaronage1 i found that 3.5ghz with an intel chipset was very easy to get to. any higher needed a LOT of tweaking in my experience.

@mrbit10 it would, but I wouldnt worry about it. unless you are absolutely anal about getting the most out of your cooler, i wouldnt stress myself over it. lol. i would say the dust from 2 weeks of use would make more of a difference.

@TalesOfWar I don't feel that you get an even coverage using you finger...IMO you have more control to achieve a even consistent layer...does this matter.... probably not once you mount the cooler and add pressure....but it's just the way I like to do it.

i like your method for spreading the compound. i used to put a dab in the middle and squeeze the heatsink on the cpu and let it spread itself. i don't know if that was an efficient way to do it but nothing has gone wrong so far.

Loved the bit about thermal paste, its true, everyone thinks they're an expert lol I stick it tiny dot in the middle method, but I hate it when people argue over which method is right/wrong :)

Have you had an overclocking sesh with this new setup yet? Can't remember how high the Q6600 can go :O
