  • Does the atom even support ECC?

  • @commodore256 Looking at any of these boards right now I googled, don't see any that do support ECC.

  • Great video, Are you going to be using Ubuntu 9.10 for the OS install?

What about LVM over RAID sounds like they won't need both, but each Linux admin does his own?

  • @vwbond I wan going to use the LTS. Question for me is the new one or old one.. Getting near release time.. kind of up in the air on that. Don't want to use any 6 month releases on this yet.

  • If I'm not mistaken, a server is more reliant on ram than actual processor juice... Am I right?

  • @arthursucks It's between ECC & Non ECC memory. Desktop RAM is non ECC RAM is many cases. Workstation & Servers usually run ECC memory.. however depending on it's class of server. This main board was made meant for small jobs, so it didn't support ECC memory. his last server ran for 10 years that i built for him shown an avg 1% active usage. so I expect the same here on this puppy, but CPULD do more if he wanted.

  • Yea error correction code should be a safe game if you talk about a file server ;)

Anyways nice cool small server :)

  • @BiblyMC actually no it cant. a single atom cant handle a single person so at most the dual atoms can support 4

  • @FraeStudios iF u get the atom dualcore and have more then 1.5gb of ram u can

  • could an atom run a minecraft server?

    side question whats ecc mean?

  • this board is ugly as shit

  • It doesn't support ECC memory. I got a similar D510 Supermicro Mini-ITX board for a small server - no ECC. I'm doing four drives in RAID 6, not 10. It'll be linux software raid. Raid 6 will be slower, but it is not being built for speed so thats fine. With raid 6 there are two redundant drives. One can fail and while it is in the process of being replaced, and the array rebuilt, you still have one redundant drive.

Are you using desktop drives or enterprise drives?

  • Does the X7SLA-L run with 8GB of RAM? The website says up to 2GB dual channel unbuffered, non-ECC DDR2 667*/533/400 SDRAM.

  • Why 500 gig drives?

  • So what kind of UPS setup does your friend have? Never forget the power supply needs!
