why do religious people dismiss carbon dating

the world is not 6000 years old. im looking forward to "ardi" on discovery channel. if you follow the ten commandments, then when people hiding jews in their houses in WWII were asked by nazi soldiers and SS members if they were hiding anyone, they would have turned the jews in. "thou shall not lie." how about "thou shall not exaggerate bullshit." "what the mind does not understand, it FEARS or WORSHIPS"

@Prisoner5150 because it is not a good way to know how old something is but thats why there are several ways to know it through several tests not just carbon dating

potassium-40 decays to argon-40; uranium-238 decays to lead-206 via other elements like radium; uranium-235 decays to lead-207; rubidium-87 decays to strontium-87

and so on so next time a christian says carbon dating isnt accurate then you can use these as an example

@exposingthemachine The Bible also says that it's ok to have slaves, sell your daughter into slavery, kill people that work on the sabbath day, that a bat is really a bird, that the stars are set in the sky in a dome above the earth, that the Hebrews could kill their enemy's women but keep their maidens, that a mensturating woman can't prepare food, that it's a sin to wear cloth of two different materials, that a man that rapes a virgin is bound by honor to marry her, and I'm out of space.

@exposingthemachine The Bible is nothing more than a book. Why believe that book when there are other religious books out there? what makes the Bible so special?

They dismiss carbon dating when it comes to aging the dinosaurs. Since carbon's half life is about 5000 years, it's not very accurate when aging something older than 50000 years. So a lot of fundamentalist Christians believe that we aged the dinosaur fossils we found to be 64 million years old based on carbon dating. However, we don't use something with a half-life of 5000 years (carbon) to date dinosaur fossils. We use naturally occurring uranium that has a 4mil yr half life.

@Thatonedude917 Agreed. It's amusing when you actually check on the sources the apologetics claim are proof that Jesus was historical. Lucian, for instance, was a propagandist that wrote a play about how gullible the Christians are. Now the Christians claim his play, a work of fictional literature, as proof.

@Prisoner5150 They dismiss radiometric dating completely. Take a look at college graduate rates vs belief in young earth creationism...I promise you will not be surprised.

Most Christians believe there is extrabiblical history of Jesus. This is not true at all. Other than Holy books there is no evidence that Jesus lived. There are a few historians that Christians claim wrote about Jesus but they have either not been writing about Jesus or in the case of Josephus the claim is pious fraud. Believe in Jesus if you must but the truth is there is no evidence other than holy books that he even existed.
