Nashend Buzzard is a registered 12-year-old grey Highland pony stallion, approximately 14.1hh. He is very straight and free moving with excellent conformation and a lovely head.
He comes from show winning stock. His sire Balmoral Dee (McNair of Denmill X Dewdrop of Whitefield), was bred at HM the Queen's stud at Balmoral. Dee's numerous show successes included winning Male Champion at the Royal Highland Show. He was kept for many years at Balmoral, along with The Queen's other Highland stallion, Balmoral Moss, and produced very good quality foals, including Buzzard. Later Dee moved south to the Nashend Stud in Gloucestershire.
Buzzard's dam is Nashend Sabine (Broadshade Culardoch X Sanderling of Nashend) who was a lovely yellow dun mare with many awards to her name, including Champion at P.O.B. Peterborough, and Female Champion at the Royal Show.
Buzzard has an exceptionally friendly and calm temperament. He is extremely easy to handle and is never pushy or overbearing. He's as gentle and well mannered as our most placid mare while at the same time having plenty of 'stallion' presence.
He has been professionally schooled and is now being regularly hacked out, both on the road and around the farm. He loves going 'out and about' and never gets flustered by new situations or loud noises.
Buzzard runs out with his mares and is a real gentleman, being calm with them and their foals. He treats them with respect and has never caused our mares any injury or stress. He is very fertile and so far two thirds of his foals have been fillies. He produces foals in the full range of Highland pony colours, not only grey like himself. We are very pleased with the foals he has left us and are retaining several of these for breeding. This sadly means that we are now having to sell Buzzard before he comes into his own stock.
He has a good mix of traditional bloodlines, going back to Knocknagael and Derculich lines, as well as a strong connection to the rare old Western Isles lines (Tor Lochan, Eoligary etc.) through his grand dam Sanderling of Nashend. This combination has produced a pony with plenty of bone and substance, while still retaining a very active riding type.
We are very fond of Buzzard and extremely reluctant to part with him. So we are happy to wait, and enjoy his company here at our stud, until the ideal new home turns up. We're hoping to find a very caring home, where he can run with Highland pony mares, as well as being kept busy as a ridden stallion. If you like him and think you could offer him such a home then please send your enquiry to: lismorehighlandponies@ googlemail.com
