The Iraq Veterans Against the War, IVAW, marched to the Pepsi Center to meet with Democratic nominee Obama about his war policy on Wednesday, August 27, 2008 during the Democratic Convention in Denver, Colorado.
IVAW members along with 9,000 stood in formation waiting for a response from the Obama campaign.
They got through to the campaign staff, and their veterans' liaison came out to set up a meeting to talk about when they can read their letter to the delegates. Protesters were elated by the victory, but after meeting with Obama's veterans' liaison, Philip Carter, the initial promise of a time to address the convention was changed.
IVAW believes that a responsible withdrawal of US forces from Iraq should include,
number one, the immediate withdrawal of all occupying forces from Iraq;
two, full and adequate healthcare and benefits to all returning service members and veterans;
and three, reparations made to the Iraqi people for the destruction caused by the US war and occupation.

For the supporters of John McCain, "country first" is an empty slogan. For the members of Iraq Veterans Against the War, putting country first is the cause to which we continue to dedicate our lives.
