During its descent towards the northern polar region of Mars, the Phoenix spacecraft passed near a massive crater called Heimdall. A spectacular photo taken by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter showed the tiny speck of the spacecraft and parachute in front of this crater. That image is certainly going to go down as one of the iconic images of spaceflight history.
