Martinique -- New Black Eagle Jazz Band 1988.
During a concert in California the band plays one of these woderful Wilbur de Paris compositions. The music of de Paris had been an inpiration to this group since their beginnings in the early seventies.
One the purest jazz playing bands in the United States. Seven very talented professionals. With professionals I don't mean professional "musicians ", no, a professor of dentistry, a pediatrician, an civil engineer, a book publisher, an architect, a psychologist and yes, one professional musician. I'm not telling you who is which.
Each of these talented men have been studying, practicing the different styles of early jazz, and in these clips you hear their combined effort at the highest level.
Through the years they have established their own unique sound and play the music of the early masters in their own honest approach.
Tony Pingle cornet, Peter Bullis banjo, Stan Vincent trombone, Pam Pameijer drums, Bob Pilsbury piano, Eli Newberger tuba and Billy Novick reeds.

  • Rainiers recorded this wonderful tune in 1986. It may have been after the NBEJB recorded this excellent version! Was a wonderful time of friendships. Thanks Bob!!!!

  • We did it with Climax as well. We heard it first by Wilbur de Paris and then by Max Collie who was our inspiration in the early seventies. and yes, whoever inspired us, these were the days when many friendships were made. Randy, thanks for mentioning that.

  • Pilsbury's piano playing has always amazed me. Has a "churchy" sound to it. The Eagles have long been one of my favorite live trad bands.
