David Byrne & Brian Eno
Qu'ran
My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts

This was also in the soundtrack for Blade Runner, for the scene in Taffey Lewis's bar, just before Deckard retires Zhora, but only in the original Workprint version. It is also barely audible in the Final Cut as deckard is on the way to Taffey's Bar.

Enjoy

  • Whenever I listen to this track I feel entranced by the sheer beauty of its rhythm and beats. Great ! Thanks a lot, Sarah Jeanette.

  • I just bought this LP yesterday and there's a big gash right across this song. The entire reason I bought the album is gone! RAGE!!!

  • It's Byrne's humble admission that 'we know all about you and we are not bothered'. We love your sound and your people. White guys are mostly ok and like you. Reference; Byrnes saved West African music almost single-handedly.....

  • So,Is David Bryne is trying to make the muslims angry or making the muslims proud by using the quran word?

  • wow the lyrics are from the Al - Quran verse~

  • His playing incoherent and misplaced verses in the background with music . The verses have meaning and holy scriptures to Muslims . Why is it such a surprise Muslims find it uncomfortable ?

  • I think it's a shame that some Muslims took offense at this incredible song...on one hand, it is adjacent to a number of songs with samples of people you would usually place firmly in the lunatic fringe, but I always felt it was their intention to bring the strange and unusual to the fore, and that the world has a lot to offer...regardless of where you were born, who your parents were, and where you went to school.

  • Artists are bold not politics

  • @Tullvideoclips Yes, now I know what you mean. I had the original LP in about March / April 1981 after hearing 'come with us' on BBC Radio 1 John Peel show. I loved the album and the Qu'ran track. I don't know if I still have the copy, as I've got so much vinyl and have not looked at much of it for years unless I fancy digging out an album. I mostly listen to my cds or online now

  • @TheKenfig "Qu'ran" was replaced by "Very Very Hungry", which was a non-LP B-side before. An LP with "Qur'an" doesn't have "Very Very Hungry" and vice-versa. Usually CD versions have the revised setlist (with "Very Very Hungry" but without "Qur'an"), but the CD I mentioned contains the original setlist adding "Very Very Hungry" as the last track

  • @Tullvideoclips I think I've got the 2006 remaster but what do you mean BOTH tracks ? Do you mean this and a replacement number or do you mean two different VERSIONS of Qu'ran ?

  • @TheKenfig If you want both tracks, the Sire 6093-2 CD contains both. It was released in 1989. There is probably another edition from that time that contains this. Any other later pressing doesn't, though. The 2006 remaster adds 7 tracks, but still lacks this and doesn't even mention it on the booklet.
