As someone who listened to the CDs several times and then found the linear notes online (itunes download didn't come with it, sadly), the liner notes is really necessary to understand the album; just listening gives you a gist of the song, but lacks some unity between the songs(in the first CD at least, second one was far better...in just about everything.)

I believe that, though I haven't actually seen many vids of theirs yet, since the entire first CD is a rock opera based on the Megaman Storyline, without some form of visual aid to tell who is supposed to be what there is no way to tell that it is even much of a story.
Knowing how things happen, likely they didn't have too many resources to begin with and had to buy some common helmets to model into it. After the performances, I would bet they liked the helmets so they continue to wear them.

Games: Protoman is built to stop Wily from taking over the world.
Protomen: Protoman is built to reclaim the world from Wily
Games: Protoman's core has a short operational life, he resents Light for this and runs away.
Protomen: Protoman fights Wily's army and dies trying to save the people, who simply stand by and watch him die.
