I was there (24), close enough to see both stage & background shows on the buildings. Took a lovely girl I'd just met days before. We brought two bottles of wine & some cheese/bread to enjoy atop a blanket on the bayou shores.
As a Houstonian, this was one of the magical nites of my life. Music from another world celebrating my city that was going thru hard times.
Evening didn't end with the show--Suzanne & I let our sweet senses rendezvous under sheets that night for our first time ever. .

Yes, the song is Ethnicolor, but the concert is still Rendez-vous Houston. :-)

When the Aliens land, Jean-Michel Jarre should be appointed to greet them.

How do you know he's gay and even if he is, who cares? All that matters is his supernatural music and how can you even compare Jean Michel to Mike Oldfield? Besides. this so-called "bloke" has an an audience of 3,500,000 and made it into the Guiness Book of World Records. I have the utmost respect for him.

I remember when this concert was first braodcast in the UK. Took my breath away. Shame it rained here when he came to London.

gay french bloke who wishes he was mike oldfield

@polysmart No he usually does not play anything live , usually all is played by sidemans and Francis Rimbert. Jarre only creates the music in studio all stage is done by 99% other musicians AND PLAYBACK ! No one cares about the latter though , What a show !

this contains every inch of the "good" power human beings can develope to make this world a better one, who cares if he really controls the XXL synthesizer, he doesn't have to proof that he's a great artist, this were the eighties everyone who nags here, try to do the same.....

Every time you see Jarre playing this the crowd are actually behind him and not in front of him. It was only at the end of the concert for Rendez-Vous 4 when the whole circular light up keyboard actually spun round on a spinning platform and then Jarre was facing the crowd
-
I read somewhere that it was Bob Giraldi, (the director of the Rendez-Vous Houston video film), who actually came up with the idea of the circular keyboard which lights up as it would look better for the video and much more visual on screen.

@ChrisEchoes I thought it was just for show but at the start of the Rendez-Vous Houston official video release there is a scene of Jarre during the daytime on stage and he plays 4 notes on the keyboard whilst he is surrounded by journalists so i'm a bit unsure

@fanguk2 yeah man.huh. my tailor is rich huh?
Please dont hate me for asking this question, but is Jarre actually controlling anything from this large semi-circular keyboard or is it just there for the show? If he is controlling something, it seems not at all synchronized with the music, which might be due to editing.

Thank you for your comment. He is playing the incidental sections of the track, between 4.39 and 5.05 you get a shot of the person playing the main melody, a collaboration of the musicians on keyboard, for what Jean is playing the pictures and sound is correct. The sound and pictures have not been changed from the original broadcast. all I have actually done is to convert it from Mpeg2 to Mpeg4 to preserve the concert and for easier upload and download time.
