On June 29/07 VoiceofCanada editor Mark Vandermaas spent the day with Haldimand resident Donna Pitcher as she staged a one-woman protest on the bridge over the Grand River in Dunnville, Ontario, Canada. While there, members of the OPP gathered names of those present. Pitcher's protest was in response to rumours that native extremists might try to shut the bridge down as part of the Aboriginal Day of Action protests. Since Caledonia had been victimized by illegal occupations and associated crime and violence since early 2006 this was a distinct possibilty however, no such attempts were made. Throughout the day various residents, including one former council member, came to visit Donna and some brought food and refreshments in support.
