Bleach/Ammonia Bath for a tangled/matted unit:

Wear gloves to protect ur hands. Take a gallon of the hottest water u can stand and add to that 1/4 cup of bleach. Place the unit in the solution and w/a wide tooth comb or paddle brush, brush or comb the unit for 2mins. Longer than 2 minutes will strip the color and possibly change the texture. After 2 mins, remove the unit and rinse all traces of the bleach from it. Clean the sink well, removing all traces of bleach. The bleach residue must be removed before starting on with the ammonia bath. Next, take a gallon of the hottest water u can stand and add 1/4 cup of ammonia to it. Put the unit in the water and comb or brush for another 2 mins. When time is up, rinse all traces of ammonia from the unit and clean your sink well. Co-wash and marinate the unit in a moisturizing conditioner. Rinse that out and ur unit will be good as new.

  • I have a wig thats matted terribly bad. I don't think this is going to work on it. Its a remi 100% full lace body wave. It got like that after I washed it. Im not sure of how this bleach and ammonia could unmat it. :-(

  • @ladyj40 Hey. If it tangles after a wash the hair cuticles were not flowing in the same direction. Try it, it won't hurt the hair, just don't leave the wig in the solution longer than 2mins or it will affect the color. If anything, it will soften it up for you.

  • What does the Silicon Mix do? Is it the same solution some wig are being shipped with. To keep them from tangeling??? And what to use on a front lace wig/weft in back to keep it from shedding??? THX Gurl

  • @Gbaby779 Silicon?! one of the baddest conditioners out there. Works to soften the hair and is dyno-mite after a bleach bath because it replenishes lost moisture and shine. Put unit in a plastic bag and micro about 40secs after the wash. And, there's no sure-fire solution on the market for shedding but I'm swearing by the "Softex". So far I really like it. Have to put on again after a alcohol cleaning but it sure cut down the shedding on my store bought units while I'm wearing them.

  • Thank you for your response. Also, thank you considering making the vids for my two questions that I posted. When I am referring to the double knot and single knots, I mean, where on the cap do you place the knots and what needles do you use? I look forward to seeing both demonstrations.

    Thank you

  • @sgchappell2007 re dbl/sing knots.. I dble knot the entire unit except at the front hairline now. The dbl knots don't slip out as easy as single knots. Single knots used in the front hairline is because they don't show therefore do not have to be bleached but they can easily stick to your adhesive and be pulled out when removing your unit, so a lace release must be used, not just alcohol.
