Carbon emissions from burning petcoke in a power station would be attributed to the power station, to attribute them to the processing of tar sand would be double counting and not sound accounting. It's not CO2 until it's combusted...

What gets to me with these oil haters is that they never pick on the real poluters. The big cities that are on the coasts. A lot of them just pump raw sewage right into the ocean and no one cares. All these environuts want is for us to kill the oil sands project. It is the one good money maker that we have and there is no way we are going to close it down. We need the oil and the money. It is estimated we have enough oil for over 500 years. That is great news.

Robert, good points however it doesn't really matter if there is no warming. Global warming now means cooling or warming or weird weather or normal weather. No scientific theory should be pinned down to predicting so that it can be proven correct or falsified by the data should it?

No, you are the cancer to us. Try to learn the truth and not the garbage feed to you by middle eastern oil interests.

I believe that most of the protests are funding by middle eastern oil interests and the people here that protest are being duped.

We are just going through a major snow storm on the 12th of april. It is not global warming, it is now global cooling. The people running around yelling the sky is falling are going a great job considering most of them are making a hell of a lot of money doing it.

LOL, climate now theres a non issue. 16 years of record co2 emissions with no corresponding temperature increase, yeah everyone be afraid of the missing warming.

Although human industry is a contributing factor, it is incredibly negligible. Global warming has been happening since the last ice age over 10 000 years ago. It is ciclical based largely on solar cycles and has happened before and will happen again. It is expected to only go up by 3% celcius before the next ice age. 65 million years ago it was 10% higher than now and no polar ice caps at all. The worst we have done is expedite this by maybe a hundred years. Pollution is not the same as GHGs.

Actually there is not overwhelming consensus you dumb fuck. Since 2008 the vast majority of scientists agree that human induced global warming is nothing more than an unprovable hypothesis. All of human industry only accounts for 3% of the GHGs produced by the planet each year. The vast majority comes from natural processes such as volcanoes, forest fires, cellular respiration, permiation of gas through soil, decomposing plant and animal life etc... of that 3% only 0.01% comes from the oil sand

Furthermore there is no alterative to petroleum even though morons think there is. Alberta invests more money, resources and talent into finding such solutions than anyone else on earth per capita. 7 billion people (will plateau at 12 billion) can only be sustained with petroleum. We need it for everything and most importantly food. To stop oil production outright is to literally sine the death warrents of billions of people. Ask yourselves why demonize oil and not coal. Pathetic.

As an independent environmental scientist and geologist I can tell you these people are not only lying about the impact of the oilsands but they clearly know nothing about the industry or the environment. Pathetic, these "environmentalists" need to pick up a text book and learn something. No scientist in their right mind would back up the claims made by these fools. Misinformation is more dangerous to actual environmental prudence than lying to the masses simply because something "seems" true.
