Ubon Ratchathani is a major tourist destination of the lower I-San. The town is renowned for its superbly carved was candles that are paraded through town at the beginning of Buddhist Lent. The province borders to the Mekong River in the east which features superb scenic views of Khong Chiam district and Pha Taem National Park.
My girlfriend and I once visited this region and it indeed is a beautiful part of Thailand. Also, we visited the city Ubon Ratchathani and somehow we felt so glad we have visited Ubon. Perhaps it was the delicious but spicy food in the Smile-restaurant? :-)

The area shown is well worth a visit. The trail to the Buddah carvings is long and hot (Jan) but the Mekon will be low.
