Atlantic Sturgeon Release

Here is a struggling Atlantic sturgeon that I found while kayaking Hills Beach, Maine. It was in shallow water and unable to stay upright. I grabbed it by the tail, carefully removed the heavy rubber tubing stuck around the gill plate and revived this majestic fish. After a few minutes the gills appeared to be functioning and it was strong enough to swim again on its' own power. Saving this prehistoric fish struck me as a great reminder of how important it is to serve as stewards of our oceans and to prevent trash from entering our waters!
