The song is about whatever you feel it is about. YES it is random. A random happy song with very morbid innuendo.Like Happy phantom by tori amos. When i listen, i hear someone on the verge of a breakdown trying to find a meaning in life but longing to die. You may hear something entirely different.

On the outside it sounds like a silly/random song, but it's actually about suicide if you listen closely. The music box is the monotony of life and everyone wants to get out. When she says "I lower in my whole mouth and take a gulp, and start to..." it sounds like she's gonna say "choke," but instead she says "feel mortality surround me." (dying) Then at the "mechanism" and "completely" she makes those choking sounds. It's brilliant but depressing.

@moonpearl1a It's not random. The song parallels tradition, conformist societal expectations (the music box) with the only expression of creativity the narrator can make: her childish suicide (which she commits while performing a traditional role--washing the dishes).
