I think it's about someone who doesn't like the monotony of the world. She wants to "get out of the music box." To try to escape this reality, she likes to dip her hands in hot water. When that isn't enough, she pretends she's having an adventure with those bottlecaps and she tastes the soap, then drinks it out of frustration toward her state of being. This is where the drowning attempts come in. She thinks that killing herself will help her find herself and escape the "music box."

could not have said it better. Feel so much like the "character" in this song sometimes. Don't we all. Brilliant song. Love Regina and this is one of my favorites of hers and one of my most repeatedly sung songs out of everything I sing. I guess I should have explained that I sing before I said what I said, and it would have made more sense, huh.
