Update - 24 April 2008. Escalator appears to be functioning. Just watch the duct tape at ground level.
The sign that had the 6 April 2009 in-service date is torn off the wall. Escalator still out of of service. And Toronto wants an Olympic Games or a Pan-Americans Games. Yeah right.
Start date pushed back to mid April 2009, from March, from February. Why bother even posting any date? It's not going to be met.
No escalator service at Eglinton station, one of Toronto's busiest subway stations, for almost two years.
Why bother with escalators at all if they sit idle? The TTC appears to be one of the few transit systems that is dismantling its service and infrastructure. First the moving sidewalk connecting the north and south ends of Spadina station was removed. Then, a full half decade ago, the bus terminal at Eglinton station was shut down, no replacement on the horizon either. Now the escalators appear to be going the same way.
With such decay, small wonder the drugs and guns and shooting crowd is claiming TTC buses and the subway as their own playground and firing range. Jane-Finch, GTA wide - here we come - courtesy of the TTC, the better way.
