Today's military needs well trained military police officers to enforce Law and Order on military bases and government installations. As an MP, you'll be responsible for all facets of maintaining a crime free base.
Some of your daily duties might include arrests of lawbreakers, crime scene investigation, traffic enforcement (speed radar),access control and detainee operations.
Military police academy is not easy. You'll be tired and sore and not everyone will complete the course. Upon graduation, you'll belong to one of the most prestigious and rewarding jobs in the military. Many MP's go on to work for major civilian law enforcent agencies.
MP school is 19 weeks long of One Station United Training (OSUT), which combines basic training and job training into one single course, at Fort Leonard Wood, MO.
The National Guard is currently seeking candidates to fill slots in the next academy.

@ikey02 A regular MP doesn't get issued a badge, they can go out and buy one but it carries no weight and has no use. Unless they are assigned a special duty, like AWOL apprehension, MPI, SRT, etc. Even for them though its up to the specific command weather or not to issue them. Usually if there is any pain cloths duty they will receive a badge and credentials to back it up, often though the credentials are returned when the duty day is over.
