  • @Dimnexus Tom is your cousin?

  • Hi, it's me..my "Don'tBeTrippin" account was suspended over three years ago. ;) I can't believe Tom would skip over the fact that he was obviously still at 'BZ after People Are Talking ended. This opening for the news did not debut until early 1994, and Bergeron was there doing the talk segment on the noon news. Perhaps Tom left in the early months of '94 (I honestly can't remember), before going on to Magic and then to FX. Now that you mention it, I think I do recall him on Magic briefly.

  • THE BOSTON GLOBE:Veteran Broadcaster John Henning from Boston Dies at 73

  • whatever happened to Suzanne Bates?

  • hffreak: Good question, I assume the side shot was used to show Bergeron over at the sit down sit on the open. My recollection was they always used this pattern on the noon open.

I can't really put my finger on it, but there's definitely something a bit different about the music on these opens as well - the sound when the theme trails off and the anchors begin sounds different than the morning or evening newscasts.

  • And to perk up interest on an old topic, why is a side show used for noon than the zoom in from the back for the open?

  • wow, funny to see this stuff, havent seen that in a really long time. Tommy's my cousin, so it's fun for me to look back on.

  • Tom Bergeron?

  • Yeah, and after that was the new "Hollywood Squares" and after that was "America's Funniest Home Videos".

  • Bergeron must have been gone from 'BZ no later than June 1994 because then is when FX cable nextwork launched, and he was one of their original "channel hosts". He also hosted the morning talk show Breakfast Time on FX, and went with that program as it became Fox After Breakfast on the regular Fox network.
